AOL UK in mobile content store launch

LONDON - AOL UK is set to roll out a mobile content store across its mobile and web-based portals.

Mobile services company WIN will provide the content delivery platform to supply entertainment, information and paid-for content to AOL users.

WIN will source and develop content, including games and ringtones, on an ongoing basis and also integrate mobile delivery of AOL UK's Instant Messenger service (AIM).

The move into mobile content is the latest by AOL, which started out as an ISP, to increase its content portfolio, following news earlier this month that its men's lifestyle site Asylum.com is to expand into four international editions including the UK and Australia. In May, AOL also paid £425m for social networking site Bebo.

Chris Locke, director of mobile at AOL Europe, said it was important to offer AOL users a compelling mobile experience.  He said: "We want to continue to enrich the web to mobile experience and attract new mobile users through attractive, made for mobile content."
