Portsmouth seeks comms advice

Portsmouth City Council is seeking advice from other councils in order to develop a set of communications protocols.

The council has already received advice from Kerrier District Council and Westminster City Council, as overseen by director of comms Alex Aiken.

The protocols will be set up to establish guidelines for staff on how to deliver comms services, such as how staff should go about approaching the comms team in order to develop a press release, and the process to go through in order to sign off releases.

Portsmouth is looking to have a first draft of the protocols in place by mid-July.

Portsmouth corporate comms officer Charlotte Smith said: ‘We’ve got a long process to go through to make sure it meets the needs of the authority.’
