Thomas Cook picks agency for direct work

by Jemima Bokaie, Marketing 01-Jul-08

Thomas Cook has hired Outside the Box to handle its direct business as part of an overhaul of its agency roster.

The account includes the Thomas Cook, Going Places and Cresta brands,
which were acquired by the firm as a result of its merger with MyTravel
last June. It has previously worked with Story.

The review was led by Simon Carter, who was appointed executive director

of marketing under the post-merger management structure.

Carter is currently overseeing a review of the firm's pan-European
advertising arrangements, through Oystercatchers, with a view to
consolidating the account into a single agency.

The incumbent on Thomas Cook's £4m creative account is The Company
of Angels, a division of Sweet FA, while MyTravel works with incumbent
Clear Communications Manchester for creative.

Last month, former Abbey customer director Angus Porter joined the
travel company as group strategy director.
