Cabinet Office appoints Bishop for top comms job

by Matt Cartmell, PR Week UK 02-Jul-08, 16:28

The Cabinet Office has appointed Central Office of Information (COI) chief executive Alan Bishop to handle the role of interim permanent secretary for government communications.

Bishop takes the role following the exit of Howell James, who left last month after being offered the top comms role at Barclays.

Bishop will carry out his new role – thought to be the biggest public sector PR job - while continuing to work for the COI.

He will hold the role until a permanent replacement is in place, which is expected to be in late summer or early autumn.
