Chemistry to scoop £18m Orange DM from Wunderman

by Kate Nettleton, Campaign 04-Jul-08

Orange is set to hand Chemistry its entire £18 million direct marketing account, after parting company with the incumbent, Wunderman.

The telecoms provider split with Wunderman on Tuesday, just one year
after the agency won the account.

The news comes shortly after Orange announced it was reviewing its
£75 million media business, as well as re-assessing its direct

marketing agency arrangements. At the time, the telecoms company

maintained that Wunderman would remain its direct marketing agency of
record.

Wunderman secured the account in June 2007 following a pitch against the
incumbents, Craik Jones Watson Mitchell Voelkel, WWAV Rapp Collins and
Chemistry. During the pitch process, Chemistry was rumoured to have come
a close second to Wunderman in landing the account.

An Orange spokesman said: "Orange would like to confirm that the direct
marketing relationship with Wunderman was terminated (on Tuesday) by
Orange after a period of review. We are currently at advanced stages of
discussion with another agency to take over the account and are looking
forward to appointing it in the next few days."

The media pitch has not yet reached the shortlist stage.
