LONDON - Tourism Australia has appointed DDB Worldwide to handle its $169m advertising account for the next three years.

DDB Worldwide won the business after a final pitch against Saatchi & Saatchi. The incumbent, M&C Saatchi, was on the original pitchlist, which also included Publicis Mojo, Singleton Ogilvy & Mather and Whybin\TBWA.

Tourism Australia's managing director, Geoff Buckley, said that in the coming months the body's focus would be on maximising the global marketing and promotional opportunities presented by the Baz Luhrmann movie Australia, which is scheduled for release in the US in November.

Tourism Australia is currently finalising the selection of an agency to provide media buying and planning services.
