Media Week 12-Aug-08, 15:20

LONDON - BBC Worldwide has appointed Simon Hutson to the new role of vice-president digital media & DVD for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Hutson was previously BBC Worldwide's head of publishing for emerging territories in EMEA. This role has been expanded to include digital in and outside the emerging region. He will continue to look after EMEA's DVD distribution activities.

In his new position, Hutson will be responsible for developing a long-term strategy that maximises the appeal of BBC content across EMEA.

Hutson will lead digital distribution activity using local platforms in each territory, and will work closely with BBC Worldwide's director of digital, Simon Danker, on international digital deals.

The move is part of the division's increased focus on developing digital business across EMEA. It reflects BBC Worldwide's overall objective of generating 10% of total revenue from online business by the 2010/11 financial year.
