EA Games responds to glitch with Tiger Woods Jesus walk video

LONDON - EA Games has hit back at a video posted on YouTube highlighting a glitch in its Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 game, which allows the golfer to walk on water, by creating its own ad showing the real Tiger Woods appearing to do just that.

A user, who calls himself Levinator 25, posted a video on YouTube of the Tiger Woods game, highlighting a glitch which allows players to hit shots while standing on water hazards.

Levinator laughs as the Tiger Woods character takes what he calls the Jesus shot and says "Jesus prevails" when the ball lands perfectly in the hole.

EA Games has responded to the clip with its own YouTube video featuring the real Tiger Woods. The video shows the original clip and then text appears saying: "Levinator 25. You seem to think your Jesus shot was a glitch in the game."

The real Tiger Woods then takes off his shoes and walks across the water to perform the perfect shot, as seen in the game.

It ends as text stats: "It's not a glitch. He's just that good."

The clip has been viewed over 260,000 times on YouTube so far.

I love this. This is the perfect way for a brand to operate in the 'buzzosphere'

HA!....only thing though..would have loved to have seen Mr Woods put the club in the water nearer to where he was standing. If that wasn't a filled in bit of land there that he was standing on..why didn't the golf ball sink?...or even look a little submerged, they are not that light! But yeah...Robert I agree with you, isn't this just asking for Christians to come pounding down at EA's door?

i am amazed that no1 has relised what a bad move the reply video was.Jane and Robert are right the Christain community is highly offend and i forsee negative PR heading thier way.what EA or whoever handles thier digital commmunication should have been doing is issusing an apology rather than competing with a random individual, they feel into a very dangerous trap. And it is higly embrassing that even Tiger woods conformed to such an insensitive and ineffective piece of bad marketing

if he's that good, why would he land in water?

@ Neimad - HA ! this is sooo true ! I think EA have made good light of this glitch - however some extreme "Christians" WILL find this offensive. (what are extreme Christians anyway?)

I'm not sure, I think an extreme christain is someone that is eligible to play a mojor role in the US government, or is a person named Christain that does extreme things - who qualifies what is extreme, an mot sure. But I'm not so sure its a glitch, as it seems to be an option withiin the game.

Anyone who says that this video 'offends extreme christians' and the digital agency need to issue an apology to all of them should consider the following... If a scientist disputes the fact that Jesus walked on water - should he or she apologise also? For simply stating levitation is impossible? I don't think so, so neither should this digital agency... BTW, how many extreme christians play Tiger Woods PGA or will have seen the advertisement on Youtube? Oh that's right... Brings everyone back to the Heinz case... Heinz had to pull a TV advertisment because it showed a gay kiss, which again is ludicrous - only narrow-minded people would attempt take this great creative ad apart. It's time for the critics to grow up a little

I can't stand all this hand-wringing about who this might offend. It's nothing personal! It's a joke (even Jesus made those) and a pretty quick thinking and witty one. No individual or group has the right to go through life without ever being offended or challenged. Will it hurt EA's sales? No. Did it get people talking? Yes. Then it's done what it was meant to.

In response to Zivai, although I agree that it is asking for trouble with the Christian community, this could be a great marketing stunt, everyone will want to see what the fuss is about if they are to create one. So all around I think it's pretty good, a funny response to a youtube post.  Not everything has to have a serious side to it and this isn't really mocking the christian faith.
