The World: New York - Verizon eyes deal with Google for mobile search tool

Campaign 29-Aug-08

Verizon is in talks to sign a deal that would make Google the mobile network's default search engine when its customers turn on their mobiles.

Under the terms of the deal being hammered out, the two companies would
be expected to share advertising revenues. However, there is still
uncertainty as to whether Google would be allowed to keep user data

generated by the searches.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, Verizon has been
looking for an online partner to help it develop an offering that would
provide customers with one location from which to search for services
such as new ringtones and restaurant listings.
