NEW YORK - Media Six Degrees has appointed Andrew Pancer, former About.com and New York Times digital executive, as chief operating officer.

Pancer joins Media Six Degrees, which provides brand marketers scalable audiences using social graph data, from The New York Times Company where he worked as vice president of digital development.

Prior to The Times, Pancer held the position of chief operating officer at About.com from 2005 to 2007. He helped revenues and profits triple, with revenues exceeding $100m last year.

Pancer also served as chief financial officer at About.com from 2002 to 2004.

Joe Doran, founding chief executive of Media Six Degrees, said: "Andrew brings executive operational talent and experience to an already all-star team as we prepare for full commercial launch this fall.

"That we are able to attract significant experienced industry talent like Andrew, is an affirmation from the industry of the Media Six Degrees solution."

Pancer said: "I am very excited to be joining the Media Six Degrees team. The technology they have developed is unlike anything I have seen to date. The potential to reach affinity groups at scale is a very compelling proposition."

Media Six Degrees is based in New York. Last month, it closed a $9m series of funding, led by US Venture Partners. The company received early stage funding from Contour Venture Partners, Coriolis Ventures and several prominent angel investors.
