The Independent ups cover price
LONDON - The Independent, the national newspaper with the lowest circulation, is set to raise its weekday cover price from 80p to £1 from next Monday (15 September), making it the UK's most expensive national daily paper after the Financial Times.
The move follows speculation that The Independent was considering dropping its cover price altogether.
Ivan Fallon, UK chief executive of Independent News and Media, confirmed the 20p price hike that follows rises within the last month of the weekday editions of the Daily Telegraph, up by 10p to 90p, and The Times up 10p to 80p, as newspaper groups look to boost revenues across a flagging market.

The Saturday edition of the Independent News & Media-owned title will also increase by 10p from £1.50 to £1.60 from this Saturday (13 September).
The Independent saw its circulation decline 4.09% year on year in August, to sell 230,033 average copies each day, a fall of 2.23% month on month.
The circulation of the paper in the UK was 162,500, with 41,505 bulk sales and 55,317 copies sold in other countries.
