LONDON - Blinkx, the video search engine, launched a web-based version of its broadband television offering today (Thursday), enabling consumers to use BBTV without downloading software.

As with the previous version of BBTV, the new web-based release uses Blinkx's speech and visual recognition technology to link video to related content on the web.

The ability to watch straight from the browser enables a higher level of interaction with external web content, making it easier for viewers to navigate Blinkx's online programming.

The Blinkx video search engine is set to add more channels and premium video content in the coming months to the web-based BBTV offering. Currently, viewers can legally access shows on BBC iPlayer and the online VoD offerings from ITV, Channel 4 and Five.

The launch comes after the announcement yesterday of an executive management
