TfL seeks agency for mobile widget

Transport for London is looking for an agency to create a mobile widget that will allow access to its transport services, such as the Tube Map and TfL Journey Planner.

Other features of the widget will include real-time status updates for
the Tube, the DLR, buses and London Overground. The application will be
able to store a snapshot of the latest status update, viewable without a

signal, even when underground.

A number of agencies have already been approached and the process is at
the tender stage. However, TfL is hoping to move quickly and have a
finished product available by the middle of October.

The official TfL widget, which will be compatible with iPhones and
BlackBerrys, is being produced in response to a number of unofficial
travel information applications that are already available.

The government department feels that the unofficial applications either
use information scraped from the TfL website or are providing
inconsistent, inaccurate or misleading information. The application will
be advertised on the TfL website.
