Springer to produce Polish language weekly for the UK

by John Reynolds, Media Week 19-Sep-08, 11:20

LONDON - German publisher Axel Springer is launching a Polish weekly newspaper called Fakt for Great Britain, in a bid to cash in on the UK's burgeoning Polish population.

Fakt, which translates as fact in English, is an offshoot of Fakt, the Polish daily paper that has a circulation of more than 500,000.

The title will be distributed across newsagents in the UK, as well as in specialist Polish shops and will be priced at £1.20. A sister issue, Fakt for Ireland, will also be distributed across the Republic of Ireland.

Fakt for Great Britain will carry a mix of current news from Poland and the rest of the world, and will address UK issues, with feature articles on issues such as accommodation and understanding public services.

The launch of the new paper follows News International’s bid to tap into the growing number of Polish people living in the country, with the launch of the Polski Sun during this year’s Euro 2008 football championship.
