The establishment of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety was one of the recommendations set out by Dr Tanya Byron in her report 'Safer Children in a Digital World' that was accepted by the UK government in March, 2008.
The council will be responsible for developing and leading a child internet safety strategy and advising the UK government on e-safety.
The council's board meetings will be chaired by the Home Office minister and the Department for Children, Schools and Families minister and overseen by an executive board.
The board's members are drawn from key stakeholders involved in the internet, video gaming and mobile industries as well as the Internet Watch Foundation and charity organisations.
Dr Mike Short, vice president research and development at O2, and until recently chair of the Mobile Data Association, has also been appointed to the executive board of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety.
