Vodafone launches mobile e-book service

LONDON - Vodafone UK has partnered with e-book company Gospoken to launch Books on Mobile!, which allows Vodafone users to download books to their mobile phones.

Using the Gospoken website, Vodafone customers can download bestselling titles either in audio-book form, or, for the next two weeks, as e-books, directly to their phones.

Books will cost between £5 and £15, available from publishers including Penguin, Random House and Harper Collins, which will be added to the customer's monthly Vodafone bill.

Gospoken rolled out its download service in June and was created by British soldier-turned-novelist Andy McNab, best known for his 1993 Gulf War novel 'Bravo Two Zero'.

The Books on Mobile! service will also offer free mobile e-book samplers available to download for a limited time, including the first two chapters of Andy McNab's latest non-fiction title 'Seven Troop', and samples from a number of other new releases.

Customers will also be able to get a free comedy audio sample from BBC Audiobooks, featuring acts like Mitchell & Webb, Little Britain, Armstrong & Miller and Steve Coogan.

McNab said: "At Gospoken we are really excited to be working with Vodafone. Like the majority of people nowadays, I never go anywhere without my mobile. I'm always reading and listening to books so now they're on the mobile it means I can get great content whenever, and wherever, I am."
