Sports marketing firm puts Nascar sponsorship up for sale on eBay

NEW YORK - A US sports marketing agency is taking a novel approach to finding a sponsor for a Nascar Sprint Cup Series racing car, by putting the package up for auction on eBay.

It is thought to be the first time a major race car sponsorship has been sold on the site, which as recently had unique items such as AC/DC's old tour bus and a date with Scarlett Johansson for sale.

Racing Aces Marketing, a sports sponsorship agency that represents drivers including champion sprint car racer JJ Yeley, whose car is the centre of the sponsorship, is managing the auction.

The sale, which is not yet listed on eBay, will be an interesting opportunity for other Nascar sponsors, such as Budweiser and AT&T, to see what brands are willing to pay for a presence.

Doug Ames, president of Races Aces Marketing, said: "This is a rare opportunity to get into the highly sought-after world of Nascar Sprint Cup Series sponsorship with a champion racer, JJ Yeley.

"JJ's amazing success as a 'Triple Crown' champion racer translates into more airtime for the sponsor, and we thought eBay was the perfect partner for this once-in-a-lifetime event."

Nascar is hugely popular in the US and one of the most watched sports on television. The Sprint Cup Series is one of three national series held each year, and is the biggest stock car series in the US and includes the famous Daytona 500.
