MySpace launches Android application with Google phone

LONDON - MySpace has created an Android application offering better access to its website to coincide with the UK release of the T-Mobile G1 Google phone today.

The application will be available for free download on the Android Market, similar to the iPhone users' Apple Store, in anticipation of the official launch of the T-Mobile G1 in the UK.

Android is the name for Google's mobile phone operating system, which had its global debut in the US earlier this month.

The MySpace Android application allows general MySpace access, instant photo uploads and tour schedules and band profiles.

The new application also uses Shazam technology, which allows users to identify music by holding the phone towards an unknown song, which will then connect the user to the artist's Myspace page.

Bjorn Laurin, director of mobile for Myspace for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "Our users love to access Myspace on the go and our new Android integration adds cool features like instant photo uploading and access to the latest shows from their favourite bands.

"The Myspace Android integration has been one of the most download applications in the US marketplace since launch last week, and we believe that Myspace is a natural fit for an optimized Myspace mobile experience."
