The Week: Media News - Brand and Ross suspended

Campaign 31-Oct-08

The BBC has suspended Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross after the pair made obscene phone calls to the Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.

The incident led to more than 18,000 complaints from listeners. Brand
called Sachs during his Radio 2 breakfast show and left offensive
messages about sleeping with the actor's granddaughter, Georgina

Baillie. The BBC initially defended Ross and Brand, but later released a

statement calling the stunt "unacceptable and offensive". Ofcom has now
launched an enquiry.
