LONDON - United Arab Emirates airline Etihad Airways has hired digital agency LBi to handle the online communications for its global sponsorship activity. The account is estimated to be worth £6m.

Sports sponsorship forms a major part of Etihad's international marketing strategy. The airline has several high-profile deals; these include the Ferrari F1 team, Chelsea FC and the Harlequins rugby union side.

This month Etihad expanded its strategy to Australia, in a deal to rename the Telstra Dome in Melbourne as the Etihad Stadium.
