LONDON - A website that allows consumers to mash together content from sources including the BBC with their own videos, music and pictures has launched.

Masher.com combines content from more than one source into a single piece of footage, enabling  consumers to create and share content.

Developed by the BBC Motion Gallery, the video editing application behind Masher.com was acquired in July 2008 by a consortium of investors.

Masher chairman Neil Fenton said videos created on the site can be shared on social networks including Facebook and MySpace.

"For content owners, Masher offers a completely new way for users to engage with their content, in which those users don't just consume content online passively but become both producer and consumer in an application that is highly engaging and allows for the maximisation of online advertising and sponsorship revenues," he said.
