Madonna pockets £6.5m as face of Louis Vuitton
LONDON - Madonna has signed a deal worth £6.5m to become the face of Louis Vuitton's 2009 spring/summer ad campaign, which is being shot by photographer Steven Meisel.
The ads are expected to be racy as Meisel was the photographer behind the images for Madonna's notorious 1992 book 'Sex', which was released as an accompaniment to her fifth studio album Erotica.
The book featured softcore pornographic photographs depicting simulations of sexual acts including homosexuality and sadomasochism. Madonna wrote the book as a character named Mistress Dita, inspired by the silent film actress Dita Parlo.
More recently Meisel photographed the singer for the cover of the May issue of Vanity Fair where she is clutching a giant globe.
The queen of pop, who is getting divorced from her husband director Guy Richie, was spotted chatting about clothing lines with Louis Vuitton's head designer Marc Jacobs at the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood last weekend.
Madonna is no stranger to ad campaigns having previously starred in ads for Gap, H&M, Versace and Max Factor.
Vodafone agreed a worldwide deal with Warner Music International to promote Madonna's album, 'Hard Candy', through track previews and exclusive download to mobile content, prior to its release in April.
Last month the original James Bond, Sean Connery, was photographed by Annie Leibovitz for Louis Vuitton's Core Values ad campaign. Connery was shot lounging around in the Bahamas.
Other celebrities photographed by Leibovitz for the campaign included: Andre Agassi and his wife Steffi Graf; Catherine Deneuve; Keith Richards; Sofia Coppola and her father Francis Ford Coppola; and Mikhail Gorbachev, the last head of state of the USSR.

do we really always have to have the suffix "the last head of state of the USSR" every time Gorbachev is mentioned regarding the LV campaigns on this site? it's depressing that an assumption is being made that some people would not know who he is.

some people actually don't know who he is. Not sure if USSR is the perfect hint though.

Can this woman stop and have a break? Or should I say give the world a break from her? How much is too much exposure? Having finished her tour by the time the campaign goes out what other product will she be banging us on by then?

she is still the top shot.... and perfect for brand endorsement.... worth spending 6.5M for LV.
