LONDON - Visa Europe is launching a Christmas digital ad campaign to convince consumers that online payments are safe. Ads are appearing on online retail websites such as Kelkoo, Virgin and Pricerunner until the end of December.

The banner ad campaign, by marketing agency Inferno, emphasises that if consumers do not receive goods paid for with a Visa card, or if they are a victim of online fraud, that they are protected.

The brand is also rolling out a new website, consumer.visaeurope.com, to initially focus on travel, shopping and online safety in the build-up to Christmas. The portal includes shopping tips from the fashion editors at Grazia and Look magazines, and promotes Visa's partnership with social shopping network website ThisNext.

'Our online ad campaign drives the message that when buying online, there is no safer way to pay than with a Visa card. Our website provides a place for people to go to get more information and tips about shopping online or using their card abroad. All of this activity reflects our brand message that life flows better with Visa,' said Mariano Dima, executive vice president for marketing at Visa Europe.
