LONDON - Former Mis-Teeq singer Alesha Dixon was the celebrity most searched by media organisations and charities in 2008, according to an online search directory.

The girl band star, who won the British TV series 'Strictly Come Dancing' last year, came top in a survey of nearly 14,000 name searches put through the UK-based media contacts search directory Celebrities Worldwide.

Celebrities Worldwide provides charities and media and entertainment organisations with details of celebrity agents and representatives.

Dixon beat the likes of 'Doctor Who' actor David Tennant, who was placed second, 'Top Gear' presenter Jeremy Clarkson, who came third, controversial chat show host Jonathan Ross, who was fourth, and Jamie Oliver, who came fifth.

Richard Brecker, Celebrities Worldwide spokesman, said: "It's quite surprising that Alesha Dixon has been searched more times this year than stars like Lily Allen (sixth place) and Kylie Minogue (19th).

"We think she must be a popular choice with many of the charities using our database and suspect she ticks all the right boxes - friendly while being sexy, approachable and inoffensive at the same time."

Tycoon Sir Alan Sugar, the star of the BBC TV series 'The Apprentice', was the most requested business name.

Popular TV chef Gordon Ramsey, who has found himself in some controversy of late, came in 10th, while comedians Russell Brand and Ricky Gervais were placed 12th and 13th respectively.

US heart throb Brad Pitt rounded off the table at 100.

More importantly, why is Gordon Ramsey (sic) described as 'popular'?
