LONDON - Orange is capitalising on the soaring demand for mobile internet by offering the UK's first pay-as-you-go BlackBerry device.

Orange is offering the Pearl 8120 for £145 upfront with internet access for as little as £5 a month to meet the growing demand for a pay-as-you-go smartphone.

As many as two-thirds of its customers use its pay-as-you-go service and many are asking for Blackberry type phones.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 allows access to email, messaging, internet and also comes with a two-megapixel camera, Bluetooth and mp3 capabilities.

The device hits shelves at Orange shops in early February.

Pippa Dunn, director of pay-as-you-go, Orange UK, said: "At Orange, we've always been known for innovation and great value, and with the launch of this service, we continue to lead the market -- giving UK pay as you go customers the choice they deserve."
