Good Housekeeping down, Woman & Home up, while Glamour retains top spot

LONDON - NatMags' Good Housekeeping's circulation fell 8.3% year on year in the second half of 2008, while rival title IPC's Woman & Home increased its circulation by 5.1%, according to the latest magazine ABC figures.

Condé Nast's Glamour held on to the number one spot in the women's lifestyle sector with a circulation figure of 547,607, remaining relatively stable with a 0.4% decrease year on year.

While NatMags' Cosmopolitan held second spot, the position it moved into six months ago above Good Housekeeping, recording a figure of 450,836, despite losing 2.1% circulation year on year and 4.2% period on period.


The ABC figures, covering July to December 2008, show a relatively flat sector overall for women's lifestyle, although there were a number of other winners and losers among the paid for titles.

Bauer Media's Yours, which six months ago held fourth slot, lost 6.1% of circulation year on year and 9.1% period on period to slip to seventh place overall with a circulation figure of 307,064.

IPC's Look climbed above another IPC title, Marie Claire, the weekly magazine adding 2.9% year on year to hit 314,329, while the monthly lost 4.8% to record a circulation figure of 314,259.

Bauer's weekly fashion magazine Grazia maintained its circulation figure, although actively purchased copies have fallen by 5.5% year on year and 3.7% period on period.

Hachette's Elle is down 4.1% year on year, Condé Nast's Easy Living lost 5.6% of its circulation year on year and NatMags' She was also down. It lost 6.3% year on year and now circulates 165,008.

Elsewhere, Condé Nast's Vogue recorded 220,386 circulation, a 0% change year on year, while More added 11.5% period on period to hit 181,260. The Bauer title is down 9.4% year on year, though during that period the title has gone from fortnightly to weekly.

With an ABC figure of 101,169, Condé Nast's Vanity Fair was 1.8% up year on year, although actively purchased full-price news-stand sales accounted for just 32,482.

Similarly, Condé Nast's Tatler, which fell 4.9% year on year to 86,107 recorded full-rate news-stand sales of just 26,269 and NatMags' Harper's Bazaar, which was 0.4% up year on year, had full-rate news-stand sales of 32,588 from a total circulation figure of 109,468.
