LONDON - MySpace has relaunched its mobile website, claiming the new platform offers more integrated features and optimised performance for the 20m mobile users accessing the site every month.

The new mobile site features updated interface elements, which have been optimised for devices with screen sizes 176 pixels wide and larger and now allows users to upload photos through email.

MySpace also announced plans to develop new applications for Nokia's S60 platform and Palm's yet-to-be-released web operating system, which will be available with the hotly anticipated Palm Pre, rumoured to be a worthy rival to Apple's iPhone.

With the announcement, MySpace becomes the first social networking site to be universally covered by all smartphone platforms, a line-up which includes the iPhone, Google Android, Sidekick, Nokia, Palm and BlackBerry.

John Faith, vice president and general manager of MySpace Mobile, said: "We want our users to be able to access MySpace from any device.

"We are committed to building apps for platforms we feel are groundbreaking to offer our users the best possible on-the-go MySpace experience."

MySpace rival Facebook, which recently passed 175m members, has been in talks with Nokia for a number of months regarding a closer mobile tie-up.
