BR Video: Recession proof prices boost fast food sales
LONDON - Fast food is making a comeback in the economic downturn and chains are hiring extra staff so Brand Republic took to the streets to find out why the public is returning to burger bars -- watch the video now.
Most people interviewed attributed the sector's success to the cheap, quick and comforting nature of the food although others argued it's cheaper to cook your own.
A number of fast food chains including KFC, Domino's Pizza, McDonald's and Subway have recently announced expansion plans and strong results despite the economic downturn.

The majority of people thought their success was due to the food being cheap, quick and easy, as some admitted downgrading from more expensive restaurants.
Others pointed out that the food isn't really cheap compared to buying the ingredients and cooking a meal yourself, with one person describing fast food as "revolting".
Last week KFC announced plans to create 9,000 jobs and 200 new restaurants while the manufacturing sector took another hit as BMW cut 850 jobs at its Mini plant in Oxford.
Other fast food outlets that are booming include Subway, which is opening 600 new stores in the UK and Ireland, and Domino's and McDonald's which both performed well last year with sales rises of 10% and 7.5% (Europe) respectively.

Genuinely profound insight from Brand Republic. So, the majority of people thought that the success of these outlets during a recession was because they are cheap. Who would of thought? Look out for the next heavy-hitting study on why thefts of toilet paper near wooded areas seem to go up once bears come out of hibernation.
