LONDON - The relaunch of 80s chocolate brand Wispa has boosted Cadbury's UK sales.

The confectionery company reported sales growth of 5%, which the company attributed to Wispa's renaissance as well as innovative advertising activity including the Gorilla ads in 2007. Its more recent ‘Eyebrows' campaign for Dairy Milk has received more than 2m YouTube hits after one TV airing. Cadbury has also benefited from chewing gum sales, which rose 10% in 2008.

The company yesterday reported a 30% increase in underlying 2008 pre-tax profits to £559m and underlying sales growth of 7%.
