Sony Ericsson and mobile operator 3 are running an online and retail marketing campaign to promote the Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C510 mobile phone and its Facebook application.

The companies are using an adrenaline junkie character called Eric who has a Facebook status of ‘free as a bird' to promote the phone as an exciting youthful mobile.

Sony Ericsson's agency Iris has shot a video of Eric skydiving with the phone for www.sonyericsson.com/ericsstatus.

Sony Ericsson has launched a Facebook page for Eric through which consumers can win a prize every day for six weeks so that they can also have an exciting life of bungee jumping and going to gigs.

To promote the launch, the companies are touring the UK with a ‘Photo Envy Studio' letting local people strike the perfect pose for their Facebook profile picture.
Eric will head to the 3 store on Oxford Street this weekend with a pop-up photo studio to upload flawless pictures to consumers' Facebook profiles. The tour will visit Norwich, Leicester, Bristol and Manchester this month.

In addition to the in-store activity, the ‘Photo Envy Team' will place Eric cut-outs around the cities.

The Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C510 lets users upload and receive status updates automatically from Facebook.

Your website load may be brilliant, mine wasn't, neither was the film. Some guy jumps out of plane with large foam cartoon head on. Why? Do you think anyone will watch that and go "Wow I must buy that phone"? Sorry guys, it's old hat and feels like it's for 8 year olds. Don't think Eric will be an Ernie fro Sony Ericsson.

The agencies and clients have to put more trust in young creatives who's minds are not cluttered with ins and outs of advertising business, and who are more in touch with youth. Check creativeorchestra.com
