LONDON - Twitter fan Adam Woodyatt, the 'EastEnders' star, is encouraging fellow stars on the BBC soap to join the micro-blogging service by naming and shaming them on his Twitter page.

Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale on the show, took photos of several of the soap actors holding up a sign saying "I'm not on Twitter" and then posted the images online.

Jake Wood, who plays Max Branning, Cliff Parisi, who plays Minty Peterson, Scott Maslen, who plays Jack Branning, Samantha Janus, who plays Ronnie Mitchell, and Ricky Groves, who plays Garry Hobbs, have all featured holding the signs on Woodyatt's Twitter page.

The actors have now reportedly been bombarded with emails from fans demanding they join the social networking site.

Woodyatt, who currently has over 9,800 followers, is one of many UK celebrities blogging on Twitter. These include 'Monty Python' actor John Cleese, who has almost 124,000 followers, TV presenter Jonathan Ross, who has almost 180,000, and comedian Stephen Fry, who has over 360,000.

Last week, celebrity gossip site Holy Moly revealed the top 40 celebrity narcissists on Twitter.

Separately, a British man has travelled all the way to New Zealand for free thanks to Twitter.

He travelled through Holland, Germany, France, and the US on his way to Auckland by using offers of transport and accommodation made via Twitter.

Ian Beale? An ambassador from Twitter? Says it all. Can anyone tell me what the fascination is with Twitter? I saw it, tried it, got utterly bored incredibly soon and left it and will never go back to it. Facebook does me fine.

It's the chance to interact with a much larger community in real time - part of the reason FB recently revamped their homepage.
