LONDON - Latest research from Mintel finds sales of ethical clothing have more than quadrupled in the last five years, reaching £175m in early 2009.

Independents, high street retailers and supermarkets all seem keen to provide customers with clothing that takes into consideration the impact of production and trade on the environment amd Mintel's senior retail analyst, Katrin Magnussen, said: 'Real choice in styling and quality and truly fashionable design have been vital in the market's development.'

She added that the current range extends from the stereotypical cotton t-shirts to lingerie and eveningwear including high fashion and glamour.
