6 ways newspapers are going digital

LONDON - While Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corp, thinks about charging for access to the online versions of The Sun, News of the World and The Times; Revolution takes a look at other ways newspapers are tackling the digital challenge.

1. In order to cut costs and tap into the more resilient online ad market, many traditional media owners are restructuring their businesses.

2. Early this year the Financial Times announced plans to significantly increase digital and print integration.

3. Meanwhile, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is expected to integrate WSJ.com with News International's Times Online, possibly introducing a premium subscription, while Sky News has begun co-producing news videos with Times Online, which it has a syndication deal with.

4. The Times has also consolidated its online and print teams, with editorial, production and picture staff working across both print and online editions.

5. However, NatMags is cutting its workforce by 15 per cent, while ITV has made 30 per cent of the ITV.com content team redundant. Chief executive Michael Grade announced in March that the broadcaster intends to sell off non-core operations including social networking website Friends Reunited.

6. Google chief executive Eric Schmidt says traditional media companies can survive if they focus on innovation.

What a flimsy, vague and non specific article. 6 ways Newspapers are going digital? i dont believe ITV or Natmags cutting staff or Google's CEO stating companies need to be innovative is part of the argument. So print and online have to intergrate more? Thats been agreed since 2001.
