The poster has been erected in Coventry, which is the home to Leanne Salt -- a 30-stone woman the tabloids have dubbed "Britain's fattest mother" who admitted to feeding her triplets chicken nuggets and burgers since they were six months old.
The poster features an image of a fat-cheeked, child about to take a bite out of a burger.
"Fight the fat," the poster reads. "Go veg."
Peta, not an organisation known for pulling its punches, explained that the same billboard was erected in County Durham in 2006.
It unsurprisingly drew complaints from people who Peta reckoned "have a vested interest in meat". The Advertising Standards Authority dismissed the complaints.
Poorva Joshipura, director of Peta, said: "The damage caused by meat-based diet is like a ticking time-bomb in kids.
"Vegetarian kids are slimmer, have more energy, get better grades and are all-round better off than their meat-eating peers. These are facts that Ms Salt and other parents should take to heart."
The poster is located in Coventry's New Union Street.
Earlier this month Peta wrote to Samsung, claiming that its "baa-studs" online ad features footage of cruelty to animals.

Oh for god's sake, it's not meat that makes people fat. This is totally misleading and just ridiculous and frankly pathetic.
Rubbish - although feeding kids MY meat would definitely be filed under child abuse.

ummmmmmmmm. right.

This is misleading - so why did the ASA chuck it out? Meat in itself does not make you fat.
And whilst PETA is always provocative I'm not sure invoking child abuse at this time \(with various genuine child abuse scandals still fresh in the public memory) is going to endear many to it's aims. Cheap thrills.
I'm a strict veggie - but yes this ad' goes too far for me.
There are healthy ways of being vegetarian and unhealthy ways.
Same for an omnivorous diet.
Maybe by sparking debate they will do their 'cause' good - maybe not.
I feel that this kind of issue is best left out of the 'silly slogans' department - and more in the intelligent debate or informative department.
I don't eat meat, but clearly this is bonkers. Is this kid a child model? Where did they get him from? I reckon he will have that burger down in a jiffy.
This ad borders on child abuse. I feel sorry for all the parents that struggle to ensure their kids eat a healthy balanced diet. Apparently they should just pack them off to MacDonalds for a veggie burger and fries instead!
If you fancy a nice burger I'd recommend Eds Diner in Soho. You can't beat a big bubba burger, cheesey fries, onion rings all washed down with a root beer. It was the hangover cure sent from heaven yesterday lunch time!
As omnivorous creatures one could easily argue that the reverse is true.
This should be banned by ASA, it's really offensive and just wrong.
Maybe though this is the only way to get the people PETA are trying to talk to to listen? Peopla who understand that there are 'good' and 'bad' meat are not the target audience for this. I like it.
Idiotic, will do the general 'eat healthy' campaign such as the school food trust more damage than good with the backlash. The ad is also badly photoshopped, surely. Peta are well known for provocative yet misjudged work that is also a litle dumb i.e. using models against wearing fur who then go and parade iit a couple of years later!
What tosh! I'm half Italian and grew up with a very healthy balanced diet which included all the meat you can shake a chicken drumstick at and ate a lot and I ain't fat, never have been. It's crap food and no exercise that make kids fat. This smacks of an organisation that will jump on any topical band wagon to try and achieve their goals. I'd be interested in seeing their research that backs these claims up.
My fiance and I are expecting our first baby and there's no way I'm not feeding it meat \(obviously not straight away of course). It's part of our heritage surely. It's human nature that makes us fat, always wanting more. And I don't really know many people who got fat from eating loads of meat. It's normally doughnuts, cakes, crisps, beer etc isn't it? Besides, out of all the dinasour films you've seen, how many fat tyrannosaurus' did you spot? They eat a lot of meat ;-)

"It unsurprisingly drew complaints from people who Peta reckoned "have a vested interest in meat"." . What criteria do you have to acheive to have a vested interest in meat, and is it possible to get some sort of qualification or certificate in it? I want one.

There seems to be a lot of 'mission creep' going around these days ... just got a piece of DM from the RSPCA that wanted donations to help them protect birds. Are the RSPB going after the bunny-wunnies and this is some kind of payback? Good book just come out tracing back the ills of the modern world to when subsistence agriculture replaced hunting. Ironically, if we were all hunter gathers, populations would be self regulating, we'd be happier and have better teeth and there would be no climate change. Ironic, eh?
Mark - 22/05/2009
Also, how many Peta campaigners does it take to change a lightbulb? None, Peta can't change anything.
Thank you Peta for undermining the benefits of a vegetarian / pescetarian diet, by making all us non-meat eaters look like nutters.
Anything that makes you meat-eaters angry and/or confront your irrational anti-social behaviour in the face of unassailable evidence has to be a good thing. And Happy 50th Birthday to Mozza today. Meat Is Murder!
this ad makes me want to eat a burger
The trouble with a democracy is that anyone can freely voice their opinion. PETA are brilliant at failing to convey a message with any influence. instead they always end up looking like a bunch of extreme nutters. These kinds of organisations attract people with emotional or anger problems and then exploits them using cult religious techniques. Eating too many hamburgers is bad for kids but joining PETA is even worse. If meat is good enough for God, who am I to disagree?
And one additional fact, many vegetarian dishes are more calorific than meat ones. One fruit bar I picked up had more cals than a Mars bar. Over cooked vegetables are poor in vitamins. Human's are omnivores and need meat, many vegetarians suffer from a range of illnesses due to poor diet. There's even evidence that a pure vegetarian diet can cause mental disorders. Most vegetarians I know look sickly and lack any energy and are first down with flu.
@ChrisArnold that is, what i can only describe as, total cobblers. What are you on? It comes down to a healthy diet. I don't see many fat and overweight veggies.
One fruit bar you picked up? Just one? Pick up a few more.
Oven cooking vegetables? Sure this happens, But as someone who eats a fair amount of veg i steam it as do most other veggies i know.
As for going down first with flu you must have been over doing the caffine. Flu is a virus if you touch a doorhandle that some one has kindly deposited it on, then you have a chance of catching it. And that doesn't have a lot to do with the fact that you oven cooked your veg.
PS - i thought you were the Chris Arnold but you seem to be another.

Yeah - great 'facts'.
- and whats the thing with it being 'good enough for God' ? Is that a joke ?
As always with these debates - it's the rapantly religious 'meat eaters' who get all hot under the collar - start spouting drivel whilst pointing that same finger at 'vegetarians'.
You are all doing exactly what PeTA wants you to do! PeTA is an organisation that provoques in order to get attention and thus communicate their message! Who cares if their ad has gone too far! Just by looking at all the messages above, I have to say that PeTA has run a very successful ad!!! Wake up and smell the coffee people!

I'm smelling the coffee. But right now I am off for a cup of green tea. You have to say job well done. Hats off to that kid.Great work sonny.
