Staff were told of the decision today (25 June) by Simon Middelboe, chief executive of Emap Inform. The job cuts will run across the division, but the group did not specify from which departments or titles they will come.
Emap, which has now entered a consultation period with the affected staff, said it will look to redeploy affected staff within the group, which also includes exhibitions and conferences.
David Gilbertson, chief executive of Emap, said: "Areas of our business have come under pressure due to the impact of recession on print advertising and we need to take action now to address this as part of a wider divisional reorganisation.
"Regrettably, it is not possible to reduce costs sufficiently without making some roles redundant."
He added: "We also need to make sure our publishing business is in the right shape for the future, which will see us delivering paid-for content across a range of different platforms"
The announcement follows the news that Neil Bradford, the co-chief executive of the group's data and insight division, is leaving the company.
