LONDON - Penguin has appointed Block Interactive to build what it hopes will be the 'publishing event of the year' for its commissioned sequel to 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.

Block Interactive won a pitch against Weapon7 and Archibald Ingall Stretton to create a global destination site to promote the autumn publication of the new book.

The new site will bring together communities of fans using social networking sites Twitter and Facebook supported with a flash game and competitions driven by Penguin.

The book, written by Eoin Colfer, will be published in October to mark the 30th Anniversary of the first publication of the late Douglas Adams' cult literary series. It will be called ‘And Another Thing' and is the sixth novel in the ever-more increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy.

The book is being published in the US, UK, Canada and Australia simultaneously, warranting Penguin's development of a site targeting readers across the globe in the lead up to its release
