LONDON - PZ Cussons handwash brand Carex is launching a 'Healthy Habits' campaign this autumn to promote hand washing as a way to prevent the spread of illness.

The news follows last week's announcement, from Sir Liam Donaldson, the government's chief medical officer, that the virus may claim up to 65,000 lives across the UK.

Carex said that with increasing public confusion about Swine Flu, the campaign is a pro-active move by the brand.

The company has seen a 205% increase in sales of its anti-bacterial hand gels and a 28% increase in hand-wash products since swine flu appeared in April.

Free hygiene information will be made available on www.carex.co.uk  from 1 September. Carex will also provide information packs to schools and GP waiting rooms.

In October, it will launch a national TV advertising campaign and an online viral, which will target office workers by encouraging them to wash their hands and use handgel products.

The company has teamed up with author and family doctor Dr Carol Cooper, who will endorse the campaign.
