The ABTA Travel Buddy initiative is part of the FCO's wider ‘Know before you go campaign', which encourages UK consumers to be aware of the risks of the destination they are visiting.

Consumers signing up for Travel Buddy will receive essential holiday information after they book, before they travel and in the case of an emergency while they are in the foreign country.

‘ABTA is providing this service to members at no cost to help them provide exemplary customer service, particularly at times of emergencies when fast and effective information is needed,' said ABTA chief executive, Mark Tanzer.

ABTA is hosting its annual Travel Convention in Barcelona this week.
