The Week in Charities

by Kate Magee , PR Week UK 14-Oct-09

Kick it Out is about to launch a major PR offensive to promote equality and diversity in football.

The campaign for this year's awareness week (15-27 October) includes placing articles in match-day magazines, getting managers to wear a branded badge during post-match interviews and getting commentary teams to make references to the campaign during live broadcast coverage.

Greenfingers, a charity set up by the gardening industry to create and improve gardens at children's hospices, has appointed Porcupine PR to help publicise its work. The agency will be responsible for promoting fundraising events and finding new corporate sponsors.

Survival International will launch a range of T-shirts designed by John Rocha to mark its 40th anniversary. The human rights organisation has asked actor Gael Garcia Bernal, socialite Tamara Beckwith and Livia Firth, wife of actor Colin Firth, to model the range.

Alexandra Burke, last year's X-Factor winner, is calling on young people affected by diabetes to join Diabetes UK's new campaigners network for under-18s. Burke, whose mother has Type 2 diabetes, is launching My Voice to encourage young people to get their views heard by politicians.
