Number of jobs advertised down by half during recession

LONDON - The total number of UK job vacancies, advertised both in print and online, has halved from one million to approximately 500,000, between January 2007 and September 2009, according data released today by The Nielsen Company.

The total number of jobs advertising in the marketing and advertising sectors between July 2008 and June 2009 fell 37% to 191,244 vacancies.

Particularly hard-hit sectors include the IT, secretarial and construction, while the least affected were education, social services and hospitals/medical.
