The Sun raises cover price in the North
LONDON - Rupert Murdoch's flagship tabloid, The Sun, has upped its cover price in the Yorkshire and Tyne Tees regions by 5p, to 25p in an effort to boost its bottom line.
The Sun: cover price increase
The Sun, the biggest selling daily newspaper in the UK with a circulation of 2.97 million copies in February, has pursued a varying cover price model across the UK of late.
The paper reduced its cover price in Yorkshire and Tyne Tees in July last year from 30p to 20p, as it looked to keep its circulation over the 3m mark.
The title is still discounting from 30p to 20p in London and the South East, as it looks to win readers against rivals the Daily Mirror and the Daily Star.
The Sun's circulation has hovered around the 3 million mark recently. According to ABC data, out of the last five months, it has registered a circulation above 3 million in two months.
Despite the price cut, the paper will continue to trade at a significant discount to its rival the Daily Mirror, which is priced at 45p.
News International lifted its cover price on Monday this week.
