Dating site seeks a PR relationship
NEW YORK: Online dating service uDate is hoping to make a match with a New York-based PR shop.
Seemingly impervious to the dot-com burnout, the Derby, England-based company is shopping a potentially seven-figure consumer PR account. UDate has 11 million members globally, and reported earnings of $2 million in the second quarter of 2002.
UDate is currently the second-largest player in the online dating space, but it faces formidable competition from industry leader Match.com, which is backed by billionaire media mogul Barry Diller.
UDate is looking to PR to help it increase its market share, and is searching for a small or midsize firm with a strong record with female audiences.
"We're not looking for multi-national agencies to handle our business," said VP of Communications Toby Rowland. "We have a good relationship with our UK PR media and technology boutique, and we're looking to replicate that relationship in the US."
