Google marketing VP steps down

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA: Cindy McCaffrey has stepped down as VP of corporate marketing at Google, the company has confirmed.

Steve Langdon, senior manager of corporate PR, said that McCaffrey was no longer running marketing for the company, but would be involved with the Google Foundation, the company's forthcoming charitable corporate foundation. Google is currently searching for her replacement, he added.

In that capacity, McCaffrey oversaw all of Google's marketing, including corporate communications and PR.

In an article on tech news website ZDNet about the new foundation, McCaffrey said she was not a candidate to run the foundation and was not looking for work elsewhere.

"McCaffrey, who began with Google in 1999 and is credited with helping build its brand around the world, is perhaps the highest-ranking Google employee to leave a corporate post since the company's successful IPO in August," stated the ZDNet article.

Prior to Google, McCaffrey worked for companies including Apple Computer, E*Trade Financial, and 3DO.
