US car dealer uses AK-47 promotion to boost sales

LONDON - A car dealer in Missouri has devised an unusual approach to combating the crash in the US motor market -- he is offering a free rifle with every truck.

US vehicle sales have plummeted in the recession, so Max Muller of Max Motors near Kansas City is offering a gift certificate for a Kalashnikov AK-47 worth £320 ($450) with every vehicle purchase to boost sales.

Muller only sells American vehicles, giving credibility to his business slogan: 'God, Guns, Guts, and American Pick-Up Trucks'.

He said that he has had a great response thanks to the drug problem in the area. "It's extremely successful. There is a lot of worry about crime, we have a methamphetamine problem around here and people just want to protect themselves. And what could be better than supporting American products in these troubled times?"

The guns are American–made by IO Inc in North Carolina, although they were first developed in the Soviet Union. The AK-47 was used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, and became a symbol of resistance to America.

This is not the first time that Muller has given away free weapons. Last year he gave away a free handgun with the purchase of any vehicle, and claimed that he sold around 35 extra cars during the promotion than he normally would have.

He told CNN: "We're just trying to generate some traffic, generate some interest and enthusiasm and it seems to work real well. We're not just going to give people an AK-47 gun. Felons buy cars, too.

"What we are going to do is we're going to give them a voucher where they can go to their local gun dealer or we have local gun dealers we would strongly recommend where they can go buy a gun and go through the proper background checks so the guns end up in the right hands."

It is thought that this is the first time that the AK-47 has been used as an incentive to buy vehicles.

Only in America could this kind of idiotic promotion be allowed. May God, Buddha, Allah & Vishnu bless these fools.

I like Muller's vague attempt to rationalise this by saying "we don't give them an actual gun, we give them a voucher so they can get a gun". You're so right John, only in America........

I don't know a lot about guns but my understanding of what an AK47 is that this gun is an assault rifle capable if dispensing many rounds in a short or sustained burst. It was therefore designed for warfare with the express intention of causing maximum damage destruction and l.oss of life as possible. So it's one and only use is not for hunting but \(to paraphrase Samuel L) to absolutely positively kill every MF in the room. What possible use could someone have for such a piece of equipment other than to take human life? Actually I am interested. Does it have any other use? Given the levels of intelligence and competence of many motorists I have experienced in middle America this concerns me greatly. What's next? Buy a Ford Focus and get a free helicopter gunship with every purchase!

So many readers are over-reacting with irrational thoughts. The fact is that Americans are not shooting each other or brandishing weapons in American cities. What a great idea by this truck dealer. He's offering a comnpletely legal American-made promotional product through federally licensed gun dealers where background checks are required. I have never shot at another human being in the 40 years since I got my first rifle. I actually use my semi-auto AK47 for target shooting and hunting. The AK47 is unique because it's one of the most reliable firearms on planet earth. An "assault" rifle a would actually be full automatic and not something this dealer could legally give away or sell. These AK47's are just like any other semiauto rifle because it shoots one round at a time. It's not a machine gun.

Larry. you're nuts. The simple fact is that Americans ARE shooting each other. Jeez.

Larry has a point, not that I'm pro-gun or anything, but assault weapons are not the weapons of choice among drug dealers, gang members or criminals in the US and are used in about one-fifth of one percent \(.20%) of all violent crimes.

Its good to know that no one has ever been shot in your country, nor do you have criminals with guns, but in America we do have criminals with guns. I own many guns and have never shot anyone. However if someone should threaten myself or my family I would not hesitate to defend myself. I think this car dealer has found a great promotion for his products.
