Eyre takes up GMG role

by MediaWeek, Media Week 28-May-04, 09:02

Outspoken former chief executive of Capital Radio and ITV, Richard Eyre, has joined the ranks of the Guardian Media Group as a non-executive director.

Eyre has been seen a key figure in the business following a 30-year career including media director at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, stints at Capital and ITV, before becoming chairman and chief executive at Pearson Television in 2000.

He oversaw Pearson’s merger with RTL and became director strategy and content at the unified company.

Eyre said he was joining GMG because of a belief in the “values and business” of the company.

Paul Myners, GMG chairman, said: “We are very much looking forward to working with Richard at GMG.

“His breadth of knowledge and expertise will complement the skills already on the Board.”

Richard Eyre said: “I am a strong believer in the values and business of GMG. I hope to add real value to both”

Eyre will retain his non-executive chairmanship of production company RDF Media, chairman of the Interactive Advertising Bureau and director at Cornwall’s Eden Project.
