National Express buys UK’s largest train operator for £166m

Bus and train operator National Express is to buy Prism Rail, the UK’s largest train operator, for £166m.

LONDON (Brand Republic) - Bus and train operator National Express is to buy Prism Rail, the UK’s largest train operator, for £166m.

The merger comes after the government’s rail regulator, the Strategic Rail Authority, announced plans to merge rail franchises in an attempt to improve train services.

Under the deal, which is a combination of cash and shares, Prism Rail is valued at 615p a share.

National Express also bought US municipal bus company ATC Group in January and School Services & Leasing last month.
