M&S calls in head-hunters to find new executive director

Marks & Spencer has called in head-hunters to help it find an executive director, leading to speculation that chief executive Peter Salsbury, who has been at M&S all his working life, is to be replaced.

LONDON (Brand Republic) – Marks & Spencer has called in head-hunters to help it find an executive director, leading to speculation that chief executive Peter Salsbury, who has been at M&S all his working life, is to be replaced.

Analysts believe that possible candidates for the job include Wal-Mart’s European boss Allan Leighton, Debenhams chief executive Terry Green, or Iceland’s new chief executive Stuart Rose. Both Leighton and Green were part of entrepreneur Philip Green’s stalled acquisition plan for M&S earlier in the year.

The recruitment firm involved, Whitehead Mann, found Luc Vandevelde, the former chairman of French supermarket chain Promodes who was brought in as executive chairman at M&S last year.

M&S refused to comment.
