One 2 One to end pre-pay services

UK mobile phone operator One 2 One is to start phasing out subsidised pay-as-you-talk packages in a move which is expected to set a precedent in the UK industry as other operators seek to reduce their reliance on the pre-pay market.

LONDON (Brand Republic) - UK mobile phone operator One 2 One is to start phasing out subsidised pay-as-you-talk packages in a move which is expected to set a precedent in the UK industry as other operators seek to reduce their reliance on the pre-pay market.

Pre-pay services account for some 77% of the Deutsche Telekom-owned business. At Orange, Vodafone and BT Cellnet -- the larger mobile networks in the UK -- pay-as-you-talk users account for about 60% of the customer base.

Pre-pay packages allow customers who are not eligible for monthly subscription packages to use a mobile phone by purchasing airtime vouchers before they can make calls.
