HOW TO CHOOSE A GOOD MBA IN SINGAPORE?
Q: I have been in the advertising industry for 5 years. I graduated from a university in Singapore from where I got an Engineering degree. And recently I have got a higher diploma in advertising which is related to my present job. I am keen in pursuing my career in product and business development in FMCG and I think an MBA will enhance my career. Please advise on how to choose a good MBA program in Singapore and suggest some MBA courses for me to consider. Thanks a lot.
A: Alvin Teo, Manager, Degree Programs, Asia Pacific Management Institute replied, "Many working professionals have learnt to appreciate the "marketability" as well as "portability" of an MBA qualification. In an increasingly borderless world, people are no longer willing to restrict themselves to job opportunities available in just their home country. "Possession of an MBA will allow them to have a qualification that is recognised and valued globally - generally wherever MNCs can be found. For the FMCG industry, this is even more pronounced.
"An MBA provides competency and knowledge in management concepts with practical applications - cover marketing, professional management, business management, etc which gives students strong foundation in management principles.
"The MBA programs equip professionals such as engineers, technicians, doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc with broad-based management skills so as to be able to handle a business as a growing concern among managers. Practical aspects are embedded in projects, assignments, and case studies. Part-time MBA programs tend to be very practical in nature to the fact that participants are all working adults and experience which they can apply in their studies.
"The bottom-line of an MBA is to enable its graduates to manage a business effectively. In my opinion, you should consider UniSA MBA program as one of your choices. This program has been developed to provide participants with the range of skills required to understand, analyse, integrate and improve activities associated with business and management. To acquire a solid grounding in managing a business, participants are exposed, in depth, to business disciplines in areas such as accounting, finance, economics, marketing and people management. In the MBA program, this functional knowledge and associated practical skills are taught and integrated within a strategic framework. The objective is to cultivate a management mindset and a strategic perspective in considering business and management issues.
"Having an MBA will enable you to enter and establish a career in product and business development in the FMCG".
