Guardian Royal Exchange is looking for an advertising agency to launch a corporate brand-building campaign. The insurer, which comprises the Guardian Insurance, Guardian Direct and Guardian Health brands, is expected to use the same agency for creative work on the Guardian Direct brand. Saatchi & Saatchi, BMP DDB, Grey Advertising and J Walter Thompson are

understood to have been shortlisted for a pounds 5m campaign designed to

encourage young people to become engineers. Three engineering trade

bodies, the Engineering Council, the Engineering Marine Training

Authority and the Engineering Employers Federation, have joined forces

to launch the campaign.



The Mirror Group has appointed Jon Pulston as its new deputy head of

advertising and marketing services. Pulston, previously marketing

manager for independent outdoor specialist Poster Publicity, will market

the group’s newspapers to advertisers and agencies.



Tesco plans to redesign its Web site and develop its online shopping

facility. It has appointed Saatchi & Saatchi Vision, the new-media arm

of Saatchi & Saatchi, to the task. The agency pitched for the business

with Amex Digital. Both will work with Tesco’s existing new-media

agencies, Lowe Digital and Evans Hunt Scott.



Former Rover marketing director Kevin Morley has emerged as one of the

major players in the race to take over Rolls-Royce. Morley is reported

to have taken a key position in the Rolls-Royce Acquisition Committee,

the independent group seeking to keep the motor company British through

a management buyout.



Carlsberg-Tetley is to relaunch the premium version of its Carlsberg

lager brand, Carlsberg Export, in an attempt to give the brand a higher

profile in the off-trade. The brewer is expected to launch a dedicated

ad campaign for Carlsberg Export later this year.



Brent Cross shopping centre has shortlisted Maher Bird Associates and

CBC to work on a TV campaign for the London area.



Advertising agency Holder Henry Pearce & Bailey has appointed Harry

Turner, the former managing director of ITV company TSW and current

president of NABS, as non-executive director.



The share price of Dudley Jenkins UK, the country’s largest list broker,

rose by 31p to an all-time high of 375p after rumours of a takeover on

Tuesday (February 24). Tylan Bahcheli, chairman of parent company W

Jenkins Group, denies any knowledge of a company wanting to buy the list

broker.



Eagle Star will start selling household and travel insurance from its

Web site by the end of June. It already sells motor insurance on its

site at www.eaglestardirect.co.uk.
